Air Force pier just east of the Tyndall Marina is a nice place to offload and anchor up. It has short boardwalk to the beach on the Gulf and is almost never crowded. Good place to stop for bul minnows and finger mullet before going out

Hi Bobby, do you have an address or GPS information for this location?

Thanks

Rusty

AF Pier is at N30 04.592 W85 38.425.  Hope it helps

Thanks Bobby, That was perfect I have add the information to Florida By Water. http://www.floridabywater.com/north-west-florida/panama-city/day-trips

Hmm leme see. theres Big Lagoon, Pirates cove, Ingram bayou, wolf Bay.

Oh yeah in bama theres LuLu's the wharf, Billy goat hole on dauphin Island. Eating on the water.
Fly creek Cafe', River shack, LuLu's , The Wharf,
Ft Mc Ree is a wonderful, well protected anchorage with excellent holdiing. It is in the Gulf National Seashore, so no pets ashore, but is only accessible by boat so no crowds. We also like Pirate's Cove just across Perdido Bay in Alabama, great burgers, cold beer and ambiance. Good anchorage up the creek behind the cove. In the hot season we like to anchor off the barrier island in Big Lagoon. The southerly breeze is pleasant. We may tow the Hobie Cat or Ski boat for the grandkids to play.
We have a dock behind our home on Bayou Chico and welcome cruisers passing through to come visit for a day or so - free. We cruised about 7 of the last 21 years, so know how difficult provisioning can be if you are not familiar with the area. We will be happy to take you to West Marine, Wally World or wherever. I have attached photos of sunrise in Bayou Chico, our Cal 46 & 25, plus our pontoon boat at Ft Mc Ree hauling trash at our annual Pensacola Fishing Forum clean up party.

When anchored at Fort McCrea if you are fortunate, you may enjoy a special viewing of the Navy's expert flying team the Blue Angels. Their practice field and station are just across the ICW from this safe anchorage. Talk about awesome, shot of them coming at you from your bimini and then seemingly right on top of your mast. Breathtaking.

Tom, do you guys have a used stuff sale any time this spring at West Marine.  I sold my sailboat and have a ton of stuff to get rid of.  Hope you both are doing good,  Rumfront is getting older, but I am maintaining my youthful appearance.  Hope you had a great Madi Gras, we're still picking parade goers our of our float wheels. we didn't make the Perdido flotilla this year, they changed the date late in the game and it fell on the same night as our shipwreck lecture.

See you in the flow,

Bones of Blackwater

Saturday, April 28, 2012 starting at 0800 West Marine parking lot at 3500 Barrancas Ave, Pensacola, FL.

We will be having our annual Spring Nautical Flea Market. Car parking size spaces cost a $10 donation to the NW Florida Wildlife Center. Stop by the store or email me at oldflathead@bshmarine.com

I have not been to Pirate's Cove or Bagdad lately, too much stuff going on. :-)

We spend a lot of time at Pirates Cove... great burgers and a good place for the kids to play.

Robinson Island between Terry Cove and Alabama Point

Fort McRae... used to spend a lot of time there in the early 90's. Hope to do some camping there this spring.

Magnolia River and the Cold Hole.... for you guys over in Pensacola, this is a "Must Do" trip... head to Mobile Bay and go north to Weeks Bay... (follow the marked channel closely, Weeks Bay is shallow) then turn east about halfway up the bay. Magnolia River is spring fed from the Cold Hole, nice thing about the area is late in the summer with the Gulf and inshore waters are too warm and full of jelly fish, you can always count on cool, clean water at the Cold Hole.
Could you please provide a little more detail on where these sites are?
THANKS
Fort McRee is on the western side of Pensacola Pass, just across the pass from Fort Pickens. Pretty much the only way there is by boat. Go to Google Maps and type in Fort McRee, FL

Pirates Cove is in Josephine, AL, it's just west of Perdido Bay on north side of the intercoastal waterway. If you know where Bear Point is, Pirates cover is due north. Go to Google Maps and type in Pirates Cove Marina & Restaurant.

Robinson Island is just north of the bridge at Alabama Point (also known as Perdido Pass). Cotton Bayou, Old River, and Terry Cove all converge at Robinson Island. It is also just west of Ono Island. Go to Google maps and type in San Roc Cay, Orange Beach, AL, Robinson Island looks like the state of Florida upside down just north of the pass.

Magnolia River is on the eastern side of Weeks Bay. Weeks bay is on the lower eastern side of Mobile Bay, just north of Bon Secour Bay. Weeks bay has two nice rivers that feed into it. To the north part o the bay is Fish River and Magnolia is to the east. Nice thing about Magnolia River is it is spring fed.... nice and cold and you don't get a lot of debris floating down river after big rains. Be sure to stay in the channel in Weeks Bay, I'm not sure how big your boat is, but Weeks Bay is very shallow. Go to Google Maps and type in Weeks Bay, AL
