Does anyone know about the Appalach Northern Railway bridge at mile 347?  I hear that it is open "most" of the time. I'd appreciate any advise on the trip. Thanks.Dave & ElaineSee More

Hi Doug! Yes, that is a CSY 37B built in 1977, hull #4. We have owned her since 2003. We sail locally and think about that long trip now and then but still working and planning some coastal sailing maybe south to Naples or west along the panhandle,…

Welcome Rod! Look into the "Full Sail" board for some friends in Panama city area. Not too many of us yet and I'm too far away but sailors are alive and well in the Panhandle! Capt. Dave

The Black Water bay is about 15 miles East of Pensacola and is a mostly fresh water bay leading into the Escambia bay then into the Pensacola bay. I have a home on a canal with the boat in the back yard. The only problem getting to my house is that we have a 50 bridge height limitation at the 3 mile bridge going from Pensacola to Gulf Breeze you have to go under.

Give me a call sometime and we can talk about bottom repair.

Hi,
A good friend told me when I first got my boat 5 years ago, to never come into a dock faster than I wanted to hit it. Its a really good rule to follow. LOL... I feel confident on the water most of the time. I've taken USCG Auxiliary courses, ASA 101, 103, and 104 and passed them. I have a very healthy respect for Mother Ocean and the Gulf.

I look forward to meeting your wife, Elaine and talking with her. I strongly beleive that everyone on the boat should know at least how to steer, turn on the engine and drop the sails just in case they're the only "able" person on board. Prepare for the worst and pray for the best. Fairwinds, Patti

Hi Capt. Dave,
Thanks for the welcome. I bought my boat in Aplachicola from her previous owners. I guess half way would be Port. St. Joe? Sounds like a good plan to me. Looking foward to networking with other boaters this coming spring and summer. I just have to get brave enough to sail my boat on my own without crew. LOL... solo is so scary. Later, Patti

I live in Milton Fl off the Escambia Bay near the I-10 Bridge. We are also doing some maintenance this winter because I had the boat in storage for over 2 years while I was stationed in HI. It would have been great to have it there. We are looking at taking a trip to Apalachicola down the ICW this spring.Delete Comment
